Introducción: El término Eutanasia proviene del griego eu" y "thanatos, que significa ‘buena muerte’, definiéndose como la  acción u omisión que acelera la muerte de un paciente desahuciado, con su consentimiento, con la intención de evitar sufrimiento y dolor. La OMS indica que las definiciones de la eutanasia aún no son exactas y pueden variar de una persona a otra. Objetivo: Reflexionar sobre la eutanasia, teniendo en cuenta los diferentes enfoques que existen del tema, y su repercusión en la sociedad cubana. Método: Se realizó un estudio de revisión bibliográfica, sobre el tema de la eutanasia, tomando en cuenta las diferentes visiones que existen en el mundo sobre la misma. Para ello se consultó la bibliografía obtenida de artículos científicos utilizando los buscadores y plataformas de publicación Google académico, Scielo y Medline. Esta revisión fue realizada en el periodo de un mes. El idioma de los artículos revisados estuvo representado fundamentalmente por el español. Los artículos seleccionados fueron a criterio de la autora, por el enfoque puntual del tema en los mismos. Conclusiones: La eutanasia constituye un desafío desde el punto de vista ético y también desde lo legal. Algunos enfermos desahuciados piden que los dejen morir con dignidad para que se acaben sus sufrimientos. Ahí se presenta todo un dilema para los médicos y familiares, quienes deben adoptar una decisión final.

Abstract

Introduction: The term Euthanasia comes from the Greek “eu” y “thanatos”, which means “good death”, being defined as the action or omission that accelerates the death of an evicted patient, wich their consent, with the intention of avoiding suffering and pain. The WHO indicates that the definitions of euthanasia are not yet exact and may vary from person to person. Objective: To reflect on euthanasia, taking into account the different approaches that exist on the subject, and its impact on Cuban society. Method: A bibliographic review study was carried out on the subject of euthanasia, taking into account the different views that exist in the world about it. For this, the bibliography obtained from scientific articles was consulted using the academic search engines and publishing platforms Google, Scielo and Medline. The review was carried out in a period of one month. The language of the articles reviewed was represented mainly by Spanish. The selected articles were at the author´s discretion, due to the specific focus of the topic in them. Conclusions: Euthanasia constitutes a challenge from the ethical point of view and also from the legal point of view. Some terminally ill patients ask to be allowed to die with dignity so that their suffering will end. This presents a whole dilemma for doctors and family members, who must make a final decision.
